NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Aug. 6, 2019) –SC Works Trident is set to host a disability expo Wednesday at the SC Works Charleston facility at 1930 Hanahan Road in North Charleston.
An important event for individuals with disabilities in the Tricounty region, the expo will connect individuals with employers and provide the opportunity to learn about a wide range of topics including applying for and maintaining benefits while working, resources and training available through SC Works, access to employment, and more.
Meeting the needs of individuals with disabilities in the workforce is critically important to what we do here at SC Works Trident, said Sharon Goss, the SC Works workforce development administrator. Working in concert with our partners, this expo is another avenue for us to reach individuals with disabilities and help them find quality, gainful employment in the region.
Hosted at the main SC Works office, the event will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will conclude at noon. A host of employers will be onsite to include Roper St. Francis, City of Charleston, Dominion Energy, and others.
SC Works Trident, a Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments program, hosts several hiring events across the year intended to close the gap in the unemployment rates. With a mission to connect job seekers with employers, hosting the disability expo is an additional way SC Works can better serve individuals with disabilities on the search for employment, and the employer partners seeking to develop and maintain a qualified workforce, Goss said.
We want to empower the workforce with the information, resources and the technology they need to find successful, fulfilling careers, Goss said. The Trident region is one large community with different needs across the employment landscape, so we’re glad to be the one-stop-shop for our job seekers and employers, no matter what those needs are.
